Keith Carter Road Race

You can’t win them all…

First and foremost; a huge thank you to Hull Thursday RC for organising this truly epic road race. The volunteers were extremely friendly; and the post abandonné cake was greatly received!

The Keith Carter Road Race takes place over the taxing Newbald circuit which runs unsurprisingly through the quiet Humberside village of North Newbald. Unlike most races around our home Nottingham area (the notable exception being the Harby circuit; so loved by OVB), the Newbald circuit features one heck of a hill that takes up almost fifty percent of the total circuit. This taxing parcours; coupled with high side winds blowing across the circuit; was sure to make this a hard course.

Almost immediately after the neutralised start; the bunch split to pieces after a well coordinated effort by Arrow Cycles who were in force; at the front setting a tremendous tempo up the first ascent.

Arrow Cycles maintained a blistering pace on the front for the first two laps; at one point launching a successful attack and blocking manoeuvre. This; combined with the inclement conditions and gruelling ascents soon burned Team Green out.

A disappointing day at the races; however lessons will be learned and we’re already looking forward to coming back to the event next year.
