Weekly Club Update – 7th October 2014

SRAM NDCXL, Hill Climbs & Super Monday in this week’s club update!

Ride & Event Updates

SRAM Notts & Derby Cyclo-Cross League (NDCXL)

Round 4 of the SRAM NDCXL took place this Saturday at Shipley park. After a wet start that softened the ground; the weather improved somewhat into a cold but dry day.

Team Green fielded four riders: in the Veteran’s category; Ian “The Racing Snake” Drake and Robert Carr put in strong performances to finish 40th (20th in Category) and 37th (17th in category) respectively. In the Womens, Senior & Junior category Lewis Tarnai-Wilson battled illness like a trooper and romped home in 15th place overall (2nd in category).

Club Rides

Sunday saw two chilly club rides leave the Badger Box. A ‘B/C group’ mix headed out to the Derbyshire Dales and Cromford’s Tor Café for a few hills; whilst A Group continued their relentless march of base miles; opting for a flatter ride around Southwell; with surprise tag along Philip Draycott who’s back on the bike (at last) following his accident and injury earlier in the year. Glad to have you back Phil!

Super Monday

This Monday (4th Oct) was the club’s monthly meeting Super Monday. The full agenda is available here. A summary of the meeting has been included below:

New Members

  • Tom Corbally; who is interested in Road Racing
  • Dave Brammer; who is looking for a social club to enjoy riding with.

  • A club ride to the Broom Wagon Velo Cafe in Retford.
  • Racing Meeting planned for Janurary/February next year to plan the 2015 road season.
  • A club trip to Milton Keynes to watch the UK round of the Cyclo-Cross world cup on the 29th November.

Strava Club

A slight shift at the top of the Strava leader board last week. Phil “The Power” Heath has been toppled from the top spot for overall distance by new member David Brammer; who’s unusual route keeps him racking up the miles on a daily basis.

Ian “Fegs” Fairy defended his longest single ride title from would-be usurper Pete Fletcher with another long ride of 66.9 miles.

Once again; yours truly is king of the hill in the climbing category; with 10,997 feet of elevation gain; that’s 3900 feet of day light between closest rival Ian “The Racing Snake” Drake.

Strava leader board for the week ending 5th October.
