Last month; Lewis, Phil and Sam made the journey to Wishaw Village near Tamworth to take part in the Bob Maitland Road Race series; hosted by Concorde CC.
The first round of the series saw a strong from Lewis and Sam who tried to get several breaks clear; but were unsuccessful and eventually reeled in by the bunch. This looked to be leading to a classic sprint finish for Lewis; however a crash in the finishing corner delayed the main bunch and only 10 riders including Sam managed to slip through to mop up the points. Thankfully Lewis’ bike handling mastery saw him bunny hop safely over the crash and Phil was caught behind the commotion.
The second round was much the same with several moves by Ashfield to try and make a break go; however each time they were reeled in and a sprint was once again ensured. This time a problem free final corner ensured Lewis was in prime position to contest the sprint; which he did in fine style taking 1st place.
The third an final round almost didn’t happen for the boys; as bad traffic delayed their arrival. Thankfully a rather lenient organiser allowed them to sign on late and they took to the road once more! Again; all break away efforts were fruitless and a bunch sprint was again a certainty. Sam hit the front on the bell lap to string the bunch out and try to help Lewis, who once more took up the sprint challenge in fine form and finished 5th; securing hiss place in the series as joint 1st.
Congratulations to Lewis, Phil and Sam for more races well ridden!
